Ask an expert: How does Broccoli reduce the risk of cancer?
Provided by Getty ImagesExpert opinion from Toni Tran
Broccoli is a cruciferous vegetable of the Brassicaceae family. Broccoli is high in vitamin A, folate, vitamin C, vitamin K, and phytochemicals. It's also a good source of potassium and dietary fiber. While high-quality human studies support that food containing dietary fiber decrease the risk of colorectal cancer, the link between cruciferous vegetables and cancer prevention is not well-documented in clinical trials. Lab studies showed that phytochemicals in broccoli might prevent the development and progression of prostate cancer.
